Flying fish is a favorite food

in Barbados.  I love mine fried

to which I add lots of hot sauce.  

But these fish do not really fly.  With their strong fins they builds up alarming speed through the water then, usually when pursued by a predator, dart out of the water and glide just above the service for about 40 seconds. They are known to glide at speeds of more than 30 MPH
